Sledding in Tokyo

We don't have any snow. I am in fact hoping for my first winter ever without snow since I have a bicycle as my only form of transportation. Here's to sledding Tokyo style! Isn't this a fun park?

Jindaiji

For the first winter in three years I am enjoying the sun. Instead of mostly cloudy days with the occasionally sunny day, we have had mostly sunny days this winter thus far in Tokyo. Today we enjoyed the sunny although cold (50 degree) weather at the Buddist and Shinto temples in Jidaiji. Here are some of the pictures that Joshua captured while we were there, except the first picture which he obviously didn't take. But the rest are his.

And a Happy New Year!

It's been interesting to discover exactly how our family spends the holidays when we are separated from our family and close friends by a large ocean. We miss them! However we have had some great times this vacation.
To celebrate New Years Day we visited the top of the Tokyo Municipal Office Building. It's a great view of Tokyo from the 84th floor and it's especially good on New Years Day since none of the factories are open on New Years so there is not as much smog. The view was actually better than the pictures they have telling you what everything is!
After the building view we took the kids for some Karaoke!
Then we grabbed some Krispy Kreme, which in Shinjuku means at least a 30 minute wait.
Happy New Year! We miss you family!

We had a great trip to the Tama Zoo with some friends on the first day of J's school vacation!

Kimono

We had the opportunity to have J try on a kimono this week.  Some friends from school offered to let J borrow their kimono for a traditional picture that children have at his age.  As you can see it was quite a process getting him dressed.  Three different moms helped and they used instructions!

Cute family picture.

The true to life picture!

So it's been a while since my last post on account of hubby is pretty much flat on his back sick. Thus we don't have any cool pictures or accounts of fun events in the last few weeks.  I have however learned a lot of things this past week.  Number one of course has to be how much Hubby does that I don't realize, especially in Japan.
2.  I CAN find my own headache medicine in the drug store if B tells me what to say to the pharmacist.
3.  I can return books to the library and ask for the ones that I have requested, again with B's help with the Japanese.
4.  Sick kids can be taken to the doctor by their non-Japanese speaking mother.
5.  General entertainment of the children...(Thanks to lots of nice people who try to understand what I'm saying in Japanese.)
You get the idea.  Here's hoping B gets better soon!
